'Happy' - can be the old version of 'gay' - talking about a well discussed topic (sexuality)
rainbow- widely used as a sign for the LGBTQ population - stereotyping 'gay' people with this
'world gone wrong' - loose association to brexit? mess up with brexit leaves people confused?
political views on sexuality? - everyone should be treated the same?

unicorn with Putin on - he had recently released a calendar, one of the pictures included him on a horse (topless)




MALE audience- ownership is male, reflected in the covers, we can see that from the content on the front page.

Men are more likely to encounter with homeless people - women may be 'scared' of approaching seller in the street.

intertextuality - 'jump right in' : fearless, well known actor similar to the characters that he has acted as.
Dr Strange- well known role, marvel film, has a Dr Strange action figure with him in the picture, readers able to recognise that he was the actor for Dr Strange.

Enigma Machine - he was an actor in war film 'imitation game'.












the values of the big issue are presented in this cover.
one of the values is non-judgemental, this is evident as this front cover has experiences that may people wouldn't usually engage with.
the person looks scruffy and homeless as he has got roughed up clothes and is missing teeth. they are engaging readers with the homeless man and is showing that possibly the readers shouldn't judge someone by the way they look.




the 'dive inside cover from July 2018-



the beatles, well known band - everyone knows them
dive inside - could be encouraging the reader to buy the magazine
'timeless'- lots of the readers wouldn't have been alive when the idea of the yellow submarine was created, but they would still know what it is, showing that it is a 'timeless icon'
